What is a Pantone?
When we speak of a Pantone in the design world we are referring to a colour that is a proprietary colour space used in a variety of industries, primarily printing, though sometimes in the manufacture of coloured paint, fabric, & plastics. Pantone, an X-Rite company & the global authority on colour & provider of professional colour standards for the designs industries announced that the new colour of the year, for 2017 is Pantone 15-0343 Greenery. It is a refreshing & revitalizing shade, symbolic of new beginnings. Greenery is a fresh & zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore & renew. Greenery reminds one of flourishing foliage, signals lushness of the great outdoors & encourages one to take a deep breath, oxygenate & reinvigorate.
“While Serenity and Rose Quartz, the PANTONE Color of the Year 2016, expressed the need for harmony in a chaotic world,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalize and unite, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”
“The tangy yellow-green speaks to our desire to express, explore, experiment and reinvent, imparting a sense of buoyancy,” said Eiseman. “Through its reassuring yet assertive vibrancy, Greenery offers us self-assurance and boldness to live life on our own terms, during a time when we are redefining what makes us successful and happy.”
The colour of the year selection process requires thoughtful consideration and trend analysis. Pantone’s colour experts at the Pantone Colour Institute search the globe for new colour influences & include new lifestyles & socio-economic conditions.
After reading all of the above, it is quite amazing to learn how many emotions one colour can evoke in one’s subconscious mind. With all that in mind, when it comes to decorating your home or a clients space, there are many ways in which we can incorporate Greenery. You could add botanically-themed wallpaper, botanical printed lounge-suite or feature a plant, tree, hanging arrangement or even a Vertical Garden.
